My ascending interrupter.
hi, first thread.
Physical resistance
Ether feast
Empathy
Res Sig
Leech Sig
Power drain
Power spike
Cry of frustration
Any thoughts/comments/improvements will be appreciated.
I do have the elite- mantra of recovery -but no other elites.
I may have too many interrupts but there have been many times when all four have been recharging and i have been unable to interupt a skill/spell.

-note- this build works well, i have no real problems with it, but i wanted some advice from more experienced players to make it better.

Heck if we have MoR might as well use it; I would sub in powerblock!...or... energy drain as soon as you can.
Cry and spike are great
Shatter hex would be neat
Arcane echo is cool
drop physical resistence
drop ether feast if your group is solid

Pure Interupter
First off, what is your 2nd profession?
I assume since you are Ascending, you are a Tyrian.
I'm not sure if you goal was to do pure interupt or not.
If it is:
Complicate (Factions)
Cry Of Frustration
Guilt (vs mesmers and necros)
Shame (vs monks and maybe necros)
Power Block (e) - Sub for Mantra of Recovery
Power Spike
Signet of Disruption (Factions)
Power of Return (Factions)
Leech Signet
Power Leak
Power Drain
Power Leach (e) (Factions - replace Power Block if you get this)
If you don't have most of these, then Echo (e) and/or Archane Echo can be used as substitutes)
As for self-healing, don't use Ether Feast, just about anything else is better (Restoration is the only other spell that is as bad as a self-heal).
I don't know if you have Factions or not, but these are good ways to interupt spells (some will do actions/skills)
In truth, I find Empathy not very good. Monsters and players can out damage Empathy. Spirit of Failure works better, especially inconjunction with Distortion.
Power Drain and Power Leak are the worst types of interupt, use them if you don't get the others. The reason is Drain gives you energy, but you must have energy to cast and put points into Inspiration Magic to make it worth your while (at least the cost is only 5 energy). Power Leak drops enemy's energy by X. Its worse than Power Drain, but since you have points into Domination Magic, its okay (better for PvP)

i dont have factions yet and, as this is my first char, i made the mistake of going me/w. i dont use any warrior skills and will go /mo as soon as possible.
empathy is powerful, at my level it does 30 per hit for 20 secs. i may try using arcane echo or MoR to spread it around more.
power drain gives me 25 nrg for 5 nrg cost and is an interupt with a reasonably good recharge, i think i'll keep it.

I see. So you focus more on Domination and Inspiration magic. That's fine.
I use N/Me (my only mesmer ) so I use SS instead of Empathy. Empathy is not an interupt, that is why I didn't mention it in my list.
I would use Spirit of Pain, with Empathy then. Spirit of Pain gives you energy for each miss, 25% chance to miss (no evades nor blocking), so you can gain energy and have empathy do damage. As you travel, you will start to find monsters that cut hex duration down by 50% (bosses, I think Jade Armor as well). Some monsters can remove hexes (monks and mesmers), so watch out for them. I take it you've seen the Illusionary Weapon Warrior build right?
Fastcasting healers are good in parties.
If you wanted another interupt, Rangers have a few good ones and Necromancers have 2 good ones (Spinal Shivers and Mark Of Subversion).

you dont have to go monk secondary. some like it because you'll get a res like Rebirth. imo that's an insane reason to decide a secondary. even if it is a pve only player and you have no intentions of ever goin near pvp, there's a lot more to your secondary than a res skill or self heal.
you're right about empathy and power drain.
i think Pick Me means spirit of Failure. it is a good skill to get energy back and not get your face smashed but in pve often times the target is dead within a few moments. so it can be a waste of 10 energy. it's a good skill for rangers.
please don't be a fastcasting healer

Rebirth is cool; ressurection is also cool...
Its about judging if you think your group is "good nuff" to pull off a comeback mid battle and smash some shadow warriors if you "battle rez" or...if you think they suck completely you will be the only person left (but thats nothing new...you felt like that when you started) and have to revive the group via rebirth.
...havn't we all been there. Thankfully its usally a pretty easy choice.

How to beat yourself and stay pretty
You should read the other threads, there has been a HUGE debate to this question.
Many say Backfire and Empathy. Don't attack just cast only when needed.
Here is my method:
Empathy
Spirit of Failure
Distortion
Physical Resistance
Illusionary Weakness
Imaged Burden
Signet of Capture
Res Signet (or rebirth or resurrect)
This is how it works.
Max: Domination
Max: Illusion
Rest: Inspiration
Cast Illusionary Weakness before you hit the first stone. Wait until you are at full health, then touch the last stone. Cast empathy, spirit of failure then distortion. Do not attack, don't cast anything else. Cast distortion each time it ends.
The object is to avoid attacks (Distortion 75% evade + 25% s of failure, non-cumulative) while it kills itself with Empathy and then it will use Illusionary Weakness. This will drop its health by a lot. Without non-combat time, it won't heal at all. If you do get hit, Illusionary Weakness will keep you alive.
No other healing needed. You can use Physical Resistance instead of Distortion, its up to you.

For 8-24 seconds, target foe loses 5 Energy whenever that foe attacks.
Power Drain - Spell (Inspiration)
If target foe is casting a spell, the spell is interrupted and you gain 1-25 Energy.
Wastrel's Worry - Hex Spell (Domination)
After 3 seconds, target foe takes 8-53 damage. Wastrel's Worry ends prematurely if that foe uses a skill.
Power Leak - Spell (Domination)
If target foe is casting a spell, the spell is interrupted and your target loses 10-22 Energy.
Power Spike - Spell (Domination)
If target foe is casting a spell, the spell is interrupted and target foe takes 20-86 damage.
Power Block {Elite} - Spell (Domination)
If target foe is casting a spell, that spell is interrupted. The interrupted spell and all spells of that attribute are disabled for 3-13 seconds for that foe.

Target foe loses 3 Energy. You are healed 17-41 for each point of Energy lost.

This build should be used with a decent healer since there's not many self healing spells.
